Nick Thompson – 2023 Trustee Awards
Nick Thompson is a 2023 CPRE Trustee Award winner and was nominated by CPRE Lancashire, Liverpool and Greater Manchester for helping to connect people with their ‘countryside next door’. Find out more about why Nick was nominated here.
‘Nick Thompson is a long-standing trustee of CPRE Lancashire, Liverpool City Region and Greater Manchester Group. He is now the President after holding the chair role, on more than one occasion, and being chair of the North West Regional Group. One key area Nick has taken on is arranging events and outreach activities: meeting MPs, local councilors, and other stakeholders, liaising with the Friends of Rimrose Valley (a campaign group to stop a new road being constructed right the way through the County Park, in protected Green Belt). Nick’s interest in ensuring future development is sustainable means he is supporting a NW level rooftop solar research project.
‘Nick has taken an active role in winning funding for the Greater Manchester Ringway, and arranging walks for CPRE members along stretches of the 180-mile circular walk. He and Ben, his sheepdog, know our area well, walking the public rights of way through the countryside of Bury, Bolton, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan. Nick supports a number of other charities: a homeless charity, a special needs school, Sefton Coast Partnership, and ‘Nature Connected’, Liverpool’s Local Nature Partnership.’
